  • UNC Mentor Kamaara Lucas places in Miss Krimson and Kream Scholarship Pageant

    February 4, 2015 by admin

Movement of Youth mentor and UNC Chapel Hill junior Kamaara Lucas placed in the Miss Krimson & Kream Scholarship pageant, which she participated in on Wednesday, February 4th at 7 PM. The hosts of the pageant, the Theta Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., sought to uplift UNC women through a mutually beneficial and supportive contest. Of the eight women who participated, Kamaara received the title of Miss 1976, the second runner up in the competition.

The competition consisted of an introduction portion, a talent portion, an interview portion and a formalwear walk portion. There were three winners (First Place – Miss Krimson & Kream, First Runner Up – Miss Theta Omicron, Second Runner Up – Miss 1976), as well as awards for Miss Fundraiser and Miss Viewer’s Choice.

To prepare for the competition, Kamaara attended multiple weekly practices alongside her pageant court and the fraternity brothers. She truly appreciates the new relationships that she has been able to build through her participation. “Being involved in the pageant has been a great experience for me. I have met some great people and have gotten a bit more out of my comfort zone,” says Kamaara.

As a prize, Kamaara will receive a portion of scholarship money from the Theta Omicron chapter. She will also have the chance to plan her proposed community service project, which will expose youth from the Durham/Chapel Hill area to performing arts, visual arts and fine arts. We congratulate Kamaara on her accomplishment!
